AfterFast, Reliable Window Installation Across Novato
Window installation in Novato is a planned job that deserves a written price, a realistic schedule, and a crew that respects your home. Most single-window replacements in Novato run $800 – $2,400 installed for vinyl units, with picture windows and larger fixed glass landing in the $1,200 – $3,800 range depending on size and frame material. We’re the Window Installation team at Meridian Windows & Doors, part of the Garrison Partners family, and we’ve scoped enough Novato homes to know exactly where the local pitfalls live: Title 24 glazing reviews, 1970s rough openings that are never square, and Marin County inspectors who check flashing. Call (817) 686-2228 for a free estimate with a written line-item price before anything gets ordered.
Why Meridian Windows & Doors Is Novato’s Preferred Window Installation Company
Homeowners in Novato call us because the price goes on paper before work starts and does not move at the door. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it’s been how we’ve operated since 2009. Every job, including a full-home window swap in the Ignacio corridor or a single picture window in the San Marin hills, gets a written quote first. No exceptions.
Our crews are background-checked, uniformed, and dispatched from our San Francisco Bay Area office with a live person answering the phone 24/7. When you call with a question about glass packages or a rough inspection date, a human picks up. We don’t route Novato customers through a voicemail loop.
Elliot Vance leads the operation, and he holds every tech to the same standard on a Novato job as on any Garrison Partners project: measure every opening, confirm the design pressure rating, flash it right, and leave the site clean. The 365-Day Done Right Promise backs every install in writing. If it fails within a year, we return at no charge. That guarantee covers labor, not just glass.
Vinyl Windows in Novato
Vinyl windows in Novato are the workhorse replacement for the city’s aging aluminum sliders and single-pane originals, especially in the 1970s and 80s tracts off Ignacio Blvd where original frames are 40-plus years old and losing their thermal seal. A typical vinyl double-hung swap runs $850 – $1,800 per opening installed, depending on size, glass package, and how much the rough opening needs correcting. Low-E glass, a thin metallic coating that reflects heat while letting light through, is the standard spec for Novato’s cool winter mornings and hot August afternoons.
Double-Hung Replacements for Older Tract Homes
The double-hung is the most common request from Novato homeowners because it matches the existing look on ranch-style and two-story homes while delivering far better air sealing. We measure the rough opening against the existing aluminum frame before ordering, because 1970s tract construction rarely has square jambs. Vinyl units flex enough to seat properly when the frame is shimmed right, but only if the measurements are taken correctly on day one.
Low-E Glass Packages That Actually Pay Off Here
Novato’s seasonal temperature swing, with foggy mornings off the bay and dry heat inland toward San Marin, makes low-E glass the practical default. It cuts winter heat loss and summer solar gain without darkening the room. For homes with west-facing exposure on hillside lots, we sometimes spec a dual-pane insulated glass unit with a stronger solar-control coating. The cost difference is modest, typically $150 – $350 per window, and it shows up in the utility bill within a season or two.
Picture Window in Novato
A picture window in Novato is a fixed pane that frames the view you bought the house for, whether that’s a ridgeline in the Hamilton area or a backyard oak in Pleasant Valley. These units don’t open, which means fewer mechanical parts and a cleaner sightline, but they also carry a bigger glass load. A standard picture window replacement in Novato runs $1,200 – $3,800 installed, with the high end reserved for oversized openings or tempered glass required by code when the sill sits close to the floor.
Fixed Glass With Insulated Panels
Picture windows are the most efficient option in the lineup because there are no operable joints to leak air. We spec insulated glass units as a matter of course on Novato installations. For a large fixed pane over a sliding door or a stairwell, the dead load and wind pressure rating matter more than with a hopper or casement, so we confirm the structural framing at the header before ordering.
Replacing Old Aluminum Fixed Panes
Quite a few Novato homes built in the 1980s have original aluminum picture windows that sweat in winter and allow measurable heat gain in summer. The swap is straightforward: remove the old frame, correct any rot at the rough opening, install the new fixed unit, and re-flash all four sides. On stucco exteriors, which describe a large share of Novato housing, the flashing step is where we spend the most time. Done wrong, winter rain intrusion shows up as rot around the rough opening two seasons later.
Trusted Brands We Service in Novato
We’re authorized to install and replace products from eight manufacturer lines, and we spec the window that fits the job rather than the one sitting in a warehouse. For Novato homes, we commonly order PGT vinyl double-hung and picture window units for their strong air and water ratings, CGI for impact-rated spec when a homeowner wants the extra glass protection, and ViewLux for larger fixed-glazing applications with thin sightlines. Because we carry multiple lines, a lead time delay on one brand doesn’t strand your project. We keep local parts inventory for common Novato window styles so service visits and warranty replacements turn around faster.
Common Window Installation Problems We See in Novato Homes
- Missing Marin County permits. Any window swap that alters the glazing area or changes the rough opening requires a building permit and a Title 24 prescriptive review. The county catches it at final inspection, and the homeowner pays to redo the scope.
- Rot hidden behind old flashing. Novato’s winter rain and marine air work on stucco walls and wood framing for decades. When an old window has been leaking slowly, the first sign is often a soft sill or a rusted nail flange. We cut back to sound wood before setting a new frame.
- Sashes that bind on 1970s rough openings. The original aluminum frames on Ignacio and San Marin tract homes are rarely square. Ordering vinyl replacements without field-measuring each opening leads to double-hungs that stick or don’t latch. We measure every opening individually.
- Unrealistic lead-time promises. Custom-sized vinyl windows from PGT or CGI typically run 4 – 8 weeks from order to delivery in Novato. Any contractor promising a full-home replacement in a week is either installing someone else’s canceled order or setting the schedule up to fail.
Pricing for Window Installation in Novato, CA
Honest numbers for Novato’s market: a single vinyl double-hung replacement runs $850 – $1,800 installed. Picture windows run $1,200 – $3,800. Bay or bow units and garden windows push higher because of structural support and cantilever work. What moves the price: glass package (standard dual-pane vs. low-E vs. impact-rated), frame material, trim and flashing condition, and whether the county requires plan review beyond a standard prescriptive check. We deliver a written line-item price before any work starts, and that number does not change unless you change the scope. Call (817) 686-2228 for a free estimate.

FAQs About Window Installation in Novato
Yes, in most cases. Marin County requires a building permit any time the glazing area changes or a rough opening is altered, and a Title 24 prescriptive review is part of that process. A straight insert replacement into an existing intact frame may not require a permit, but anything that changes the glass area or the opening does. We pull the permit on your behalf and schedule the inspection. Call (817) 686-2228 if you want us to check your specific scope before you commit.
Expect 6 – 10 weeks total from signed contract to final inspector sign-off. Custom vinyl units from PGT or CGI lead times run 4 – 8 weeks. Installation itself is usually one to three days depending on how many windows and the condition of the rough openings. The Marin County inspection typically lands within a week of completion. We’ll give you a written calendar at contract signing.
Standard low-E glass is the right call for the majority of Novato homes because the biggest energy loads are winter heat loss and summer afternoon sun, not windborne debris. Impact-rated glazing from a line like CGI makes sense for specific exposures on hillside lots or if you simply want the additional glass protection. The price difference is meaningful, usually $600 – $1,200 more per window, so we’ll show you both numbers before you decide.
Only a scope change moves the price, and we document it in writing before doing the extra work. The two most common scope changes on Novato jobs are rot repair at the rough opening, which requires framing lumber and additional labor, and an upgrade to tempered glass where the inspector flags a code requirement at the sill height. Both get a written change order before we touch them. The original written quote does not drift on its own.
We install products from PGT, CGI, CWS, ES Windows, ECO Window Systems, Mr-Glass, Therma-Tru, and ViewLux. For Novato specifically, we most often spec PGT vinyl double-hungs and picture windows, CGI when impact-rated glass is requested, and ViewLux for large fixed units. Eight lines means we’re choosing the window for your opening, not the one that’s convenient to stock. Call (817) 686-2228 and we’ll walk through the options with real prices.
