Bay & Bow Windows in Los Angeles, CA | Meridian Windows & Doors

Bay and bow windows transform a flat wall into a projecting glass alcove that adds usable interior square footage and panoramic sightlines. In Los Angeles, where coastal breezes and hillside views shape how homes are designed, these multi-panel configurations are a standout option for living rooms, breakfast nooks, and primary suites. Meridian Windows & Doors fabricates and installs bay and bow windows in laminated impact glass, engineered to Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements. We carry PGT, CGI, CWS, ES Windows, ECO, and Mr-Glass lines, and every installation follows AAMA 2400/2410 practice. Call (817) 686-2228 to discuss your project.

Product Overview – Bay & Bow Windows

Bay windows are built from three panels: a large fixed center unit flanked by operable or fixed side units set at 30, 45, or 90 degree angles. Bow windows use four to six panels arranged in a gentle arc. Both project outward from the exterior wall, which is what creates the signature interior shelf space and the wrap-around view. In hurricane-prone regions, the geometry of a projecting window matters as much as the glass. The angled panels have to resist wind pressure from multiple directions simultaneously, and the joints where panels meet are the first places a poorly built unit will fail.

That’s why every bay and bow window we fabricate for Los Angeles projects uses laminated impact glass with a PVB interlayer. The interlayer holds the glass in the frame under impact, and the frame itself is custom fabricated to the opening rather than forced into a stock size. We build these windows in aluminum and vinyl, both of which handle the thermal expansion and salt exposure common across Los Angeles neighborhoods from San Pedro to Pacific Palisades. The result is a projecting window that performs like a structural component of the wall, not an add-on.

Hurricane & Compliance Performance

Laminated Impact Glass
Two panes of glass bonded with a PVB interlayer. When struck by wind-borne debris, the glass may crack but the interlayer keeps the pane intact and in the frame. This is the core mechanism behind HVHZ impact protection and what separates rated windows from standard glazing.

Miami-Dade NOA / Florida Product Approval
Each configuration carries a Notice of Acceptance and Florida Product Approval number issued per specific size and setup. These are the documents your local building department will ask for. We verify the exact numbers on your quote before fabrication begins.

FBC / HVHZ Compliance
Every bay and bow window is engineered to Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements. That means the frame, glass package, anchoring, and installation method are designed as a system, not as separate components that happen to meet minimums.

TAS 201 / 202 / 203 Testing Context
HVHZ-rated products in this category are tested under the TAS protocol family: TAS 201 for large-missile impact, TAS 202 for cyclic wind-pressure loading, and TAS 203 for forced-entry resistance. These tests simulate what a window faces during a storm and in the hours after one passes.

Design Pressure for Your Wind Zone
Design pressure is a PSF rating, not a wind-speed claim. Our bay and bow windows are engineered to design pressures matched to your specific Los Angeles wind zone, up to +/-100, and never higher. We don’t over-spec, because over-building a window wastes money without adding protection.

Energy Performance
Low-E and insulated glass options are available for bay and bow configurations. Low-E coatings reduce solar heat gain through the large glass area while preserving sightlines. In Los Angeles, where afternoon sun hits west-facing family rooms hard, this option makes a measurable difference in comfort.

Color & Glass Options

White and almond finishes work well with the stucco and light-painted exteriors common across Los Angeles neighborhoods like Mid-Wilshire and the Valley. Bronze and black frames read more contemporary and pair naturally with darker trim, modern farmhouse styles, and the coastal-modern aesthetic popular in Venice and Manhattan Beach. Tan sits in the middle, blending with Mediterranean and Spanish-style homes where terracotta and earth tones dominate.

On the glass side, clear laminated impact glass is the standard starting point. Tinted glass cuts glare and adds privacy without changing the frame color. Low-E insulated glass is the choice when the bay or bow window faces direct afternoon sun and you want to reduce heat gain through the projection. The PVB interlayer is present in every option, so none of these choices compromise impact performance.

Installation by Meridian Windows & Doors in Los Angeles

A bay or bow window is only as strong as the way it’s set into the rough opening. We start every project with a pre-install inspection that checks the opening dimensions, header condition, and existing flashing before a single panel is ordered. On day of install, the unit is set level, plumb, and square. A projecting window that’s even slightly out of square will bind at the operating panels and stress the joints, which is exactly where wind-driven water finds its way in.

We seal the perimeter with AAMA 812 low-expansion foam and follow AAMA 2400/2410 installation practice throughout. After the unit is anchored, we run a final water test on the installation and clean the site before we leave. In Los Angeles, permitting for window replacements in HVHZ jurisdictions often requires NOA submittals and product approval documentation. We handle that paperwork as part of the installation process, because an improperly installed bay window compromises the entire NOA-rated system, no matter how good the glass is. Coastal exposure along the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Santa Monica means salt and moisture management around the sill and flashing are part of every install we do.
