CWS Sliding & Patio Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

CWS sliding and patio door part replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $85 to $340 for rollers, handles, and locks installed, while full door panel or track system replacements range from $450 to $1,200 depending on the series and glass package. We stock CWS-compatible parts on the truck and can match most 6000 and 7000 series doors the same day we see them. Most owners discover a part has failed the hard way: the door drags like it’s grinding gravel, the handle won’t latch at night, or the lock spins free instead of catching.

Meridian Windows & Doors is an independent service provider and not affiliated with CWS. What that means for you is we’re not tied to one parts stream. If an OEM CWS roller set is backordered, we source a machined aftermarket equivalent that fits the same housing, and we tell you which one we’re quoting before any money changes hands.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS built its name in the Southern California market with the 6000 and 7000 sliding door series, and the parts for those two lines are not interchangeable with each other. The 6000 series uses a 1-1/4 inch roller with a stainless housing; the 7000 series moved to a 1-1/2 inch roller and a taller track profile that the old roller won’t seat into. If you buy the wrong roller set online, you’ll find out only after the door is lifted off the track, which is the worst possible moment for that discovery.

To identify your CWS door, look at the glass etching in one corner of the door panel. CWS stamps a small code starting with “C” followed by the series number. If the etching is worn off, measure the thickness of the visible roller wheel with the door closed: 1-1/4 inch means 6000 series, 1-1/2 inch means 7000. We also carry select parts for CWS patio door locks and handles, which are common failure points because the zinc die-cast internals wear down after eight to ten years of daily use in a coastal climate like Los Angeles. Salt air from the marine layer accelerates that wear, so a door in San Pedro or Venice is going to fail faster than the same door in Pasadena. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for rollers and handles, quality aftermarket parts from manufacturers like Prime-Line and WRS hold up as well as CWS originals and cost 30 to 40 percent less. For the lock cylinder, we recommend OEM because the keyway and tailpiece tolerances have to be exact.

Signs Your CWS Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door drags or scrapes when you slide it. This is almost always a roller failure. The wheels flatten on one side over time, the bearings seize, and then the door starts riding on the metal track instead of the wheels. Run it too long this way and the track itself gets grooved, which turns a $95 roller job into a $400 track replacement.
  • The door lifts up or sags when you pull it. A door that doesn’t sit level in the frame usually has one failed roller and one that’s hanging on. The sagging side means the weight is now carried by the frame, not the wheels, and that drags the top header out of square. Left alone, you’ll start seeing daylight through the top corner.
  • The handle turns but the door doesn’t latch. CWS latch mechanisms use a small internal spring that returns the latch bolt back to center. When that spring snaps, the latch stays recessed and the handle does nothing. Your door will still slide, but it won’t lock, and a sliding door that doesn’t lock is a door that reads as an invitation from the alley side.
  • The key turns but the lock cylinder spins freely. The tailpiece, a flat metal bar connecting the cylinder to the latch, is the weak point. Zinc tailpieces snap after years of torque. This failing part is cheap to replace: $25 to $45 for the cylinder and tailpiece, and most CWS locks can be matched without changing the whole handle set.
  • The door sticks when temperatures change. Los Angeles swings hot and cold more than people think, especially in the Valley, and expansion can warp an aluminum CWS frame by a few millimeters. If the stick persists after a roller adjustment, the frame itself has moved and the rollers are now fighting the track instead of riding it. That’s a track tolerance job, not a roller swap.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a CWS sliding door in Los Angeles, here is the line-item pricing we quote before any work starts:

  • Roller replacement (pair): $85 to $160 installed, parts included.
  • Handle and latch replacement: $120 to $220 installed, depending on series.
  • Lock cylinder and tailpiece: $85 to $140 installed, OEM cylinder.
  • Track repair or straightening: $200 to $400, if a roller failed and ground the track.
  • Full door panel replacement (glass, rollers, weatherstripping): $450 to $1,200, depending on glass type and size.

What drives the range most is the condition of the track. If you catch a roller early, it’s a 45-minute job. If the door has been grinding for six months, we’re now repairing the metal underneath it too. The price goes on paper before we start and it does not move at the door. Every parts replacement we do is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back at no charge, labor included.

DIY or Call Us?

There is one thing an owner can safely check, and one thing we’d tell you to stop doing immediately. The safe check: remove the plastic adjustment cap at the bottom corners of the door and see if the roller adjustment screws are accessible and turn freely. Sometimes a door just needs a half-turn of adjustment, not a new part. The stop-doing: lifting a CWS door panel out of its track by yourself. The panel weighs between 80 and 140 pounds depending on the glass, and it comes out of the track at an angle you can’t control from the top. We’ve been called out to replace cracked panels and torn framing at least a dozen times in Los Angeles where an owner tried to save the service fee and ended up with a much larger invoice.

If the rollers are beyond adjusting, or if any part of the lock or latch mechanism is involved, call (817) 686-2228. We’ll match the part, name the price before we turn a screw, and have it done the same visit.
